any given sunday...

I'm back with my first sunday report for this blog.
I actually had to get up early this sunday because my gf's niece celebrated her 1st birthday and there were some festivities planned for that. We actually went out the night before because one of the few Swiss MTT regs I got to know some time ago was celebrating his birthday and I got pretty much wasted (on the way) there (Bacardi Coke // Captain Morgan Coke // Vodka Ginger Ale - in that exact order). The music was great - some deep soulful house - and the venue was pretty cool and undergroundish. On Sunday I downed like 2liters of water before leaving the house after a couple hours of sleep. We were carrying heavy luggage (a trike - the bday gift for the niece - 2 big tiramisus and some other stuff) and had to travel like 40mins by public transportation. At the venue we helped decorate the whole place (especially I got busy with the creativity) and as we were about to put the icing on the cake people started dropping in. It ended up being around 70-100 people as lunch got served. I ate way too much (as I always end up doing): vietnamese style salad, springrolls, crab chips followed by peking duck followed by ban bao followed by sweet&sour... of course I had to squeeze in a couple of beers in between that.

I left right after the gift-unpacking-ritual had ended and immediately fired up stars on my Iphone to start the ultra late regged Sunday Kickoff (still 25 bigs though). By the time I had arrived at the train station I also regged for the $265ko. I played those during the trainride. As I arrived at the station where I had planned to switch to the tram, I found that I had to walk for a couple of stations because there was some construction work going on blocking the railway. So I was walking and 2tabling heavily. Shortly before I reached the tram-station my dead-beat Iphone-accu decided to do its (and of course my) favourite move - go out of service with 40% battery left. Since I knew it would take me around 20minutes to get home that pissed me off quite remarkably. Especially because I had managed to work up the 5k stack to around 8.5k during 150/300... My mood actually got worse when I had to wait for like 5 more minutes to cross a street because of the very same construction work. Normally you would be waiting there for 45sec tops... Because my Iphone wasn't cooperating I also wasn't able to listen to music whilst riding the tram which added even more of annoyance to my system (I absolutely HATE riding public transportation withouth music in my ears).
All of this wouldn't have been half as bad if I wouldn't have also had the pressing urge to visit Mr. Toilet through all of it...

I somehow managed to reach home leaving me and all other people unhurt and immediately started up my Macbook.

I played tournaments for $2153 and cashed $1127. So I'm down about 1k, could have been worse I guess... I feel like I played well overall. The first few tourneys I might have been a bit too loose but I slowed down remarkably after that.
In the end I managed to win a WCOOP ticket (01 or 02) and went semi deep in the Sunday Million. I actually was Top 10 stack for some period of time which is always exciting, but usually it doesn't hold up for too long unless u run well and get the sexy setups.

The plan now is to look at a couple of hands I played in this Sunday Million. I'll try to make it sort of a handhistory review. But I'll try to comment on the hands as briefly as possible.

The first table I had was pretty tough, at least for Sunday Million standards. I was getting 3bet a lot and therefore significantly tightened up my opening range. So i ended up playing way fewer hands than I usually do. The guys weren't just abusing me, they all were pretty much "pedal to the metal": 3bets, 4bets and even 5bets were happening on the regular. We were sitting at that table together for 177 hands straight, so there was a bit of history and some dynamics. The way I percepted the dynamics the villain to my left chose me as his primary 3betting target.

HAND 4: Not really a big hand, but the river is more of a c/f than a valuebet vs (at that point in time) unknown. Against the right villain I think I like to go for thin value on the river though.

HAND 60: Just a small sample of action at our table... Don't really know what to make off of Button's 50bb cold4b shove, but I don't like it with any hand. Had em noted as a good player previously, he's a supernova too.

HAND 63: Villain is pretty aggro and cabable of moving. I feel like I do have the best hand most of the time (since he's probably 3betting AK and shouldn't have any random 5x in his range). If he in fact does have AK he'll get my stack either way. So after he raises my cbet on the flop I prefer going back over the top over flatting because I could still be bluffing with air that way. If I flat I always do have at least an ace (in this universe). After he goes over the top again for almost half the effective stack I kinda hate it but decide to go with my prior assessment which proves to be right.

HAND 71: Obviously no cbet on the flop. Turncall may be debatable, meaning maybe a raise would be in order (don't love it though because we're kind of isolationg ourselves vs hands that have us beat). The river puts a 4card-straight out there which complicates things a lot in my opinion. I don't see villain leading the turn this big into 3 people without having at least 2 pair (+ sets + combo draws + maybe naked flushdraws). I was timebanking on the river because I expect him to shut down with many of the beforehand mentioned hands (except of the better straights and higher sets and of course the missed flushdraws [if he's cabable of bluffing those in this spot]). But me not knowing villain well, I don't think he's bluffing here often enough since I too won't check behind the flop and flat his turnlead (with 2 villains behind) with weak hands. I'm dead to his value range, so I fold. If he somehow had felt his 2 golden gigantic balls during this hand for the first time in his life and was running a pure bluff with air, then kudos to him.
On a sidenote: the fact that villain can never put us on a set of 4s here leaves room for gigantic amounts of self-leveling and whatnot, but I feel like my thought process does make sense nonetheless.

HAND 86: Peeling the flop here seems natural to me. Turn check behind I also like since I do have showdown value and position. On the river I bink a set and villain has like 2 times the pot left. I'm pretty confident we do have the best hand because I doubt he's checking the nutstraight on the river leat alone check the lower straight twice. Since I feel like he's not going to make a marginal bluffcatching check/call with random 7x too often I just decide to overshove (after some deliberation), hoping to look weak or at least not making much sense with my line. You'd be surprised what villains end up heroing sometimes when u play a hand like that.

HAND 141: Here I'm opening Suited Connectors with a 23bb stack from early middle position. It's an open I love to make because it looks strong and I am kind of disguised when I smash the flop. We get 3bet by our abusing companion and I really want to shove it in his face but I think better of it. In retrospec I probably should have shoved because he was really getting the best of me and T9s has great equity if he happens to have it and snaps me off.

HAND 161: My biggest missstep in my opinion... My plan was to 3bet/call him but as he shoved I changed my mind because I couldn't really find too many hands in has range worse than mine (maybe 88, duh!). But I felt he clearly was capable of opening light UTG. So I'm not sure how bad this play exactly is, but I definitely could have made it with any2, if I'm not planning to call off a shove anyway.

HAND 167: I had succesfully squeeze-shoved 15-20bbs twice vs an open and the guy on the button flatcalling during the last few orbits and scooped the pot twice without a showdown. This seems to have lead to him calling it off the third time with a superweak hand.

HAND 180: I decide to make a light steal in order to see how my new table reacts to that. The button and big blind being as short as they are adds credibility to my steal. Guess I was folding to both of them. Definitely wasn't calling the button. 3bettor might have been light with the same reasoning I just illustrated. But since he's commited to both the button and the big blind the odds of that aren't too high.

HAND 194: I just flat my Jacks in position here. Don't really want to have to get it in for 50bbs close to itm. Also one of the blinds might be getting out of line when I decide to flat. Inevitably the seat to my left gets filled by the tournament chip leader.

HAND 253: Finding out how the openlimp works vs aggro chipleader because I don't want to get 3bet and either flat oop (in that case openlimp-call is cheaper) or get it in for 55bigs. Think it's probably the best play in that situation. Villain has proven he's willing to mix it up with anyone.
